Add Page Numbers is a free tool that numbers every page of a PDF. Choose the position (top or bottom, left, centre or right), a style such as “Page 1 of 10”, the starting number and the size, and see a live preview before downloading. It runs in your browser, so your document stays private.
How to add page numbers
- Open your PDF.
- Choose where the numbers go and how they look. The preview of page 1 updates as you change settings.
- Click Add page numbers and download.
Numbering styles
- 1: the classic plain number, usually at the bottom centre.
- Page 1 or Page 1 of 10: clearer for printed handouts, and helps readers spot missing pages.
- 1 / 10: compact, common for slides and reports.
Cover pages and continued numbering
Tick No number on the first page to leave a title page unnumbered; the second page then gets the starting number. Change Start at to continue numbering from another document, for example when a report is split across several files. Numbers are placed correctly on landscape and rotated pages too.
Merging several files first? Use Merge PDF, then number the combined document.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The PDF is processed inside your browser, so it never leaves your device. That makes it safe for contracts, bank statements, medical letters and other private documents.
Can I skip the cover page?
Yes. Tick “No number on the first page”; numbering then starts on page 2 with the number you choose.
Can I start from a number other than 1?
Yes, set “Start at”, for example to continue numbering from a previous document.
Which font is used?
Helvetica, a standard PDF font that every reader displays correctly.
