Sleep Cycle Calculator

Finds the best bedtimes for your alarm — or wake-up times for tonight — across full 90-minute sleep cycles.

Your sleep times stay on this device

This tool runs entirely inside your web browser. Your sleep times are processed on your own device and are never sent to our servers. How this works

Sleep Cycle Calculator is a free tool that times your sleep around full 90-minute cycles. Give it your alarm and it lists the bedtimes that let you wake between cycles; give it tonight's bedtime and it lists the matching alarms. Nothing you enter leaves your browser.

How to time your sleep

  1. Choose Alarm time if mornings are fixed, or Bedtime if tonight is fixed.
  2. Enter the time — the six options update instantly, from one cycle up to a full six.
  3. Prefer five or six cycles where you can; pick the option you can actually keep every night.
  4. Chasing steadier energy? Your weight and sleep feed each other — check the BMI Calculator for the other half of the picture.

Why waking mid-cycle feels awful

Each cycle runs from light sleep down into deep sleep and dreaming, then back up. An alarm that fires during deep sleep drags you out with sleep inertia — the groggy, heavy twenty minutes people blame on “not enough sleep” when the real problem was mistimed sleep. Landing the alarm at a cycle boundary skips most of that fog, which is why six timed hours routinely beat eight random ones.

The 6:30 alarm, worked out

Allow fifteen minutes to drift off, then count back in nineties: six cycles lands at 9:15 PM, five at 10:45 PM, four at 12:15 AM. Most adults should take the 9:15 or 10:45 and guard it — regularity trains the body clock faster than any single early night, and screens in the last hour cost more than any calculator can give back.

Frequently asked questions

Why 90 minutes?

A full sleep cycle — light sleep, deep sleep and dreaming — averages about 90 minutes. Waking at the end of a cycle, rather than mid-cycle, is what makes mornings feel easier.

How many cycles do I need?

Most adults do well on five or six cycles (about 7.5–9 hours in bed). Five cycles beats six interrupted ones: unbroken sleep matters more than the exact total.

Is this medical advice?

No. It is bedtime arithmetic, not a diagnosis. Persistent snoring, insomnia or daytime sleepiness deserve a doctor, not a calculator.

Is anything I enter stored?

No. Times are calculated in your browser as you type and vanish when you close the page.
