About UtilTray

UtilTray is a collection of 81 free tools for everyday tasks: merging PDFs, converting and compressing photos, counting words, formatting JSON and more. Every tool runs inside your web browser, so your files and text stay on your device.

Why we built it

Most online tools ask you to upload your files to their servers, often covered in adverts and fake download buttons, sometimes with limits that push you towards a subscription. Uploading a contract, a passport scan or a photo of your children to an unknown server just to merge or resize it shouldn’t be necessary. Modern browsers are powerful enough to do this work themselves, so that is how these tools are built.

What we promise

• No uploads. Tools marked “stays on this device” never send your files or text to us. See how this works.
• No account, no limits. Use any tool as often as you like, with files as large as your device can handle.
• No watermarks or hidden changes to your files.
• Honest labels. If a tool ever needs the internet to work, it says so clearly.

The tools

• PDF tools: Compress, merge, split, reorder and convert PDF files, and add page numbers or watermarks, without uploading them.
• Image tools: Convert, compress, resize and crop photos, and remove hidden location data, on your own device.
• Text tools: Count words, change case, clean up lists, compare text and preview Markdown.
• JSON tools: Format, validate, compare and convert JSON, YAML and CSV data.
• Generators: Create QR codes, strong passwords and unique IDs such as UUIDs, NanoIDs and MongoDB ObjectIds.
• Security tools: Decode JWTs, create hashes and HMAC signatures, and verify file checksums.
• Date & time tools: Count days between dates, convert timestamps and ISO 8601 dates, and build or explain cron schedules.
• Encoding tools: Encode and decode Base64, URLs and HTML entities.
• HTTP & API tools: Convert cURL commands, inspect URLs, headers and cookies, and look up status codes.

How it’s built

The site is a set of static pages. The tools use standard browser technology (JavaScript, WebAssembly, Canvas and Web Workers) together with well-known open-source libraries such as Mozilla’s pdf.js. Pages are kept small so they load quickly on phones and slow connections.
