Why PNG instead of JPG?
Many WebP images on the web are logos, icons, stickers or product photos with transparent backgrounds. JPG would fill those areas with a solid colour. PNG keeps them transparent, and it keeps sharp edges and small text crisp, making it the better choice for graphics and anything you want to place on top of something else.
For ordinary photos without transparency, WebP to JPG gives much smaller files.
Things to expect
